Write the Old Section

Review: Move Part of the Right-Hand Idea
Let’s say that you brought Madagascar from the New Section to the Old section:

First Sentence
Your Old Section should end up looking something like this:
I have dreamed of going to Madagascar for a long time. It is the world’s fourth largest island and is very mysterious. For example,
- Customs.
- Every few years, the Malagasy take the bodies of their family from the tombs and rewrap them. There is a lot of singing and dancing.
- Their favorite game is fanorana. It is like checkers. They love the game so much that one chieftain refused to fight a battle until he had finished his game.
- Plants.
- There are upside-down trees called baobabs. The roots are in the sky so they can get water.
- There are man-eating bushes. Okay, not really. But it is easy to get lost in the bushes, and they have spikes that stick you. You slowly bleed to death.
- Animals.
- Madagascar is home to lemurs. They look like a fox and a
- It is also home to fossas, which look like foxes and weasels. They live in trees and hunt lemurs.
Review: Introduce
The introduction is marked in green. It is your first sentence. It has three parts:
I an emotion Madagascar.
For example, if you were going to say something about horses, you might say—
I love horses.
Or about spiders you might say—
I hate spiders.
Or you might look at a slug and say,
Slugs are disgusting.
In your case, you said—
I have dreamed of going to Madagascar for a long time.
Discuss
Next, in a sentence or two, you explained what you meant.
It is marked in yellow.
It is the world’s fourth largest island and is very mysterious.
Prove
Finally, you proved what you meant. You said, it (the island) is very mysterious.
You reader is not going to believe you just because you said it.
You needed facts. Their sub-titles are highlighted in turquoise.
The facts examples of proofs. So usually start the proof part by saying For example, It is indicated in purple.
Bullets
An excellent way to make reading easier is to use bullets. They are just above Paragraph on the Home tab. You don’t have to use sentences, but you should for something like an essay.
IDP
A section usually has three parts:
Introduce
Discuss
Prove
Remembering them is easy. Just think of IDK, short for I don’t know. Except it’s IDP.

Application
- Borrow part of the New idea (the right-hand end).
- Move it to the Old idea (the left-hand end)
- Write a first sentence that tells your feelings about that borrowed idea.
- Write 1-2 sentences that discuss that first sentence.
- Add For example,
- Gather facts to Prove that first sentence.
- Gather 1-2 facts per small group.
- Have the teacher put the facts on the board.
- Put the facts into groups
- Do not include the New Idea in the facts.
- Use bullets to divide the information.
- Say the information as if you are telling a group. The teacher will write down what you say.
- Write up the sentences.
- Check your spelling
- Use a dictionary
- Use spellcheck
