Brainstorm the RH Variable

Grades 7 - Adult

The prompt asked you to write about an important person involved with an activity you enjoy. It also asked you to discuss what they had to overcome to achieve what they did.

In response, you—

  • Brainstormed activities and important people.
  • Looked up ideas on the computer.
  • Deleted activities you felt educated adults would not like reading about.
  • Deleted people you felt that your readers would already know about.

You now have a three-column table with your list of people in the LH position, the VP (verb phrase) in the middle position, and a blank in the RH position.

Task 3.4.1 – Tandem, Small Group, or Class

Select 10 of the people and look up what they had to overcome.  Put had to overcome in the middle column. In the RH column, list what they had to overcome. Do not use vague words such as “hardships.”  If you cannot easily find something they overcame, then enter a question mark. For example:
