Grade 3 (Optional Grades 1-2)
You now have both the What Statement and Why Statement written.
What Statement | Why Statement | |||
---|---|---|---|---|
Left-hand (LH) | Verb Phrase | Right-hand (RH) | because | Why (Y) |
I | would be | an aye-aye lemur | because | I love rainforests. |
What the Why Section Is
The What Section was made up of the Old Section and the New Section.
The Why Section tells why the What Section is important.
Writing First Sentence of Why Section
To write the Why Section’s first sentence, repeat the What Statement and Why Statement:
I would like to be an aye-aye lemur because I love rainforests.
Now, attach One reason in front of it.
One reason I would like to be an aye-aye lemur because I love rainforests.
Finally, write the word is before the word because.
One reason I would like to be an aye-aye lemur IS because I love rainforests.
One reason I would like to be an aye-aye lemur is because I love rainforests.
IDP
An excellent way to organize a section is with IDP. That stands for—
Introduce
Discuss
Prove
Trout Shout
Introduce
Write the first sentence. This is your introduction.
Discuss
Explain your first sentence. Example:
A rainforest is a dense forest full of plants and animals where it rains a lot. Many rainforests are being destroyed.
Prove
Add facts to support your idea. Start with “For example”:
Amazon Rainforest: Covers half of South America. Home to three million species, it is being destroyed for cattle farming.
Madagascar: Most rainforest is gone due to farming and illegal logging. The logging causes soil erosion, which also kills the rainforest.
